Puy de Dome, chain of volcanoes in the Massif Central, France - a cluster of volcanoes that extends for 80 km.  There are some 80 volcanoes in this area, the Puy de Dome being the highest one at 1465 metres altitude. These volcanoes were active during the Tertiary and Quaternary periods some volcanoes older than 65 million year while others as young as 7600 years. "Puy" is a local term used to describe the rounded summits of the ancient volcanoes.
