Lavender in the winter - Thousands of lavender plants covered in snow. The Valensole plateau, some 800 square kilometres, is essentially planted with lavender. The flowering period is from mid June to mid July. In winter the plateau is cold, windy and when I flew there it was snow covered. In the flowering season not only are the fields purple coloured but the air, even up in the air flying, is perfumed with lavender. Photo taken under a cloudy sky just before it began to snow again.
